The more I play games and the more I go see films. It seems gaming is taking over when it comes to some really bloody good storytelling. Look at these two trailers for games. Mass Effect 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9Mq88_P904Heavy Rain: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMUfUpvFOFgThese two games have been such amazing experiences for me over the past year. I cried for the storyline in these games. The interactivity draws you in and makes you care so much for the characters. Now compare that to the stuff in cinema right now. I think gamings gonna take over.... edit: also for these games. You make choices. if you choose something wrong someone dies and the game goes a different direction. Sometimes its about choosing between two people and having to kill someone. Again with separate directions to both games. Heave rain has a total like about 20 endings. and Mass Effect 2. You can finish the game without surviving yourself. Your whole team goes down with you. But it still finishes.

Though I'm not that into gaming, I must say, these look beautiful. I remember you telling me about them (:

I think it might have something to do with how long games are as well.
Films are getting shorter and shorter, whereas story games have always been a good 60 hours to complete? An average film now is at most, an hour and 45 minutes. And games are much longer.
You have a lot more time to get involved with the plot, which may be a contributing factor. And as the graphics in games is improving vastly, some of them are becoming slightly like films themselves.

That's true but older films. say. American beauty and fight club get me just as connected as these games do with that short of time. Cinemas just getting lazy XD

Maybe it's something to do with originality as well. There's a lot more things you can put into a long game which make it more original than you can into a short film. I mean, before fight club, there really wasn't anything like it
